Luis Miguel underwent a stomach reduction on the advice of Paloma Cuevas

The doctor who performed the gastric sleeve procedure revealed that the singer's current partner recommended the operation because she was concerned about his health.

Singer Luis Miguel's weight loss that has been observed in his recent public appearances has a medical explanation and two culprits. His current partner, Spanish fashion designer Paloma Cuevas, recommended the artist to have a gastric sleeve procedure to help him lose weight. The operation was performed by Argentinian doctor Christian Pérez Latorre.

Cuevas "was determined to save Luis Miguel's life"

Speaking to the YouTube channel Chisme No Like, the doctor acknowledged having performed the procedure on the well-known singer. "It was a gastric sleeve, that is, it cuts part of the stomach and joins it with the small intestine. Then the stomach, which is like a bag being cut in half, is much smaller," he explained.

According to the doctor, the singer made the decision "not only to lose weight, but to try to lower his risk of getting type 2 diabetes and achieve a better quality of life." Pérez Latorre indicated that the initiative came from the singer's current partner, Paloma Cuevas, who was concerned about the state of his health: "She was determined to save Luis Miguel's life. He was quite overweight for many years, and there was already a prediabetes there that worried us a little. The truth, more than anything, is that this surgery was decided by a health issue and that is why it was never made public," explained the doctor.
