Jimmy Carter turns 99

The longest-living U.S. president was seen at a public event last week.

Jimmy Carter, the longest-living U.S. president, turned 99 on Sunday, Oct. 1. Carter, who began hospice care six months ago, was seen in public last week when he attended the Plains Peanut Festival with his wife.

Multiple personalities woke up early to wish a happy birthday to the nation’s 39th president, including the current occupant of the Oval Office, Joe Biden, who posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter. In the video, Biden wishes him, along with his wife Jill, a happy birthday and highlights that Carter "remain[s] the spirit and heart of the American people. It is a great honor to know you and to have worked with you."

Carter's health remains fragile

The former president's health continues to be quite fragile, according to his grandson Jason in an interview last week. According to what he told ABC, his grandparents are "coming to the end":

They are coming to the end, of course, at this time in their lives. But they are at peace, they are together, they are at home, they are in love, and you don't get much more than that, and they don't expect more. ... It's a true blessing for all of us to have had this much time with him.

Many personalities congratulate Carter

The Carter Foundation has been uploading videos in which celebrities and ordinary Americans congratulate the former president. Among them are former president Bill Clinton and actress Jane Fonda.
