The day before the Oscar nominees were announced, and as has become tradition, the candidates who will compete for the awards that recognize the worst of the year, the Golden Raspberry Awards, known colloquially as Razzies, were announced.
This time, "Expend4bles" leads the nominations. Sylvester Stallone's film has a total of seven nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Supporting Actor. It is followed by "The Exorcist: Believer" and "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey." Each of them obtained a total of five nominations.
For their part, in the field of actors, Jennifer Lopez and Ana de Armas stand out, who are nominated for Worst Leading Actress for their roles in, respectively, "Mother" and "Ghosted." Ana de Armas' co-star, Chris Evans, is also not exempt from being a candidate, in his case for Worst Actor for his performance in this same feature film.
The Razzies learn from their mistakes
Founded in 1981, the Razzies have never been without controversy. However, last year they angered viewers by nominating underage actress Ryan Kieran Armstrong for Worst Performer for her role in "Firestarter."
To avoid situations like this, and with the intention of honoring his motto "Own Your Bad," the founder of the Razzies, John Wilson, announced the creation of the Redeemer Award category, which will be awarded for the first time this year. This was stated by Wilson himself in a statement collected by Variety :
We believe a public apology is owed Ms. Armstrong, and wish to say we regret any hurt she experienced as a result of our choices,” Razzies founder John Wilson wrote in a statement. “We have never intended to bury anyone’s career. It is why our Redeemer Award was created. We all make mistakes, very much us included. Since our motto is ‘Own Your Bad,’ we realize that we ourselves must also live up to it.
