In Argentina, supermarkets will apply discounts on basic shopping products to support Milei's economic measures

The discounts will be applied to food (products such as sugar, noodles, flour, oil) and personal care and home cleaning (toilet paper, toilet soap, detergent).

Argentinian supermarkets reported that they will implement discounts on basic shopping products for 60 days during the program that will be called Differentiated Prices. The measure will go into effect this Wednesday.

The information was released through a statement signed by Ricardo Zorzón, president of the Argentine Chamber of Supermarkets (CAS), and Víctor Palpacelli, president of the Argentine Federation of Supermarkets and Supermarkets (FASA). With the decision, the supermarkets support the economic measures promoted by the country's new president, the libertarian Javier Milei .

"In this way, Argentinian supermarkets reaffirm their permanent commitment to the country and the consequent support for the current management, offering essential products at very convenient prices for their customers," says the statement released through social networks and reviewed by The Nation.

The initiative, as reported by the newspaper La Nación, arose from meetings held by Pablo Lavigne, Secretary of Commerce, together with Fernando Blanco Muiño, Undersecretary of Consumer Defense and Commercial Loyalty. The 20% discounts will be applied to food - products such as sugar, grass, noodles, flour, oil and more -, personal care and home cleaning - toilet paper, toilet soap, bleach, detergent - and drinks and infusions - such as tea and soft drinks.

"In this new stage, without price controls, freezes and other forms of state intervention, businessmen contribute, voluntarily and temporarily, so that the inflationary scourge affects the purchasing power of consumers to a lesser extent," highlights the release.
