Gavin Newsom now attacks Greg Abbott

Newsom mimics the Texas abortion law and adapts it to guns. The California governor publishes an ad against the Republican.

Gavin Newsom has launched a new attack against a Republican governor: Greg Abbott. The California governor has taken out several ads in the Texas press to criticize Abbott's handling of abortion and guns. Earlier this month, Newsom launched an attack on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The ad picks up a few words from Greg Abbott, and changes the words abortion to guns, one state's name to another, and Abbott's name to his own. Thus, the original statement is "Our Creator has given us the right to life. And yet children lose their right to life every year because of abortion. In Texas, we work to save those lives. Greg Abbott. And the changed text reads: "Our Creator has given us the right to life. And yet children lose their right to life every year because of guns. In California, we work to save those lives. Gavin Newsom."

Mimics texas abortion law

This campaign aims to support its latest gun control law, which mimics the Texas abortion law, but applied to guns. Thus, the law passed by the Lone Star State allows any citizen to bring to justice anyone who assists a woman seeking an abortion, and the new anti-gun rights law in California provides that any citizen can denounce in court anyone who distributes illegal assault weapons.

This is not the only target of the law or the campaign. The press sees these attacks on other governors as a strategy to create a national political profile to run in 2024.

Biden 2024?

Right now there is one clear Democratic candidate for the next presidential election, and that is Joe Biden. But his popularity is at an all-time low. And the mid-term elections, to be held next November, may give a majority in Congress to the Republicans, which would limit his political maneuverability.

On the other hand, there is a growing concern about his health, which is unlikely to improve between now and 2024, nor in the following four years of the term.

That is why, despite the fact that Biden is still in the first term, Gavin Newsom measures his chances of becoming the Democratic candidate to become the 47th President of the United States.
