Four young men involved in the beating of Jonathan Lewis are formally charged with second-degree murder

The youths were ordered to be transferred back to a juvenile detention center to remain in custody without bail, although they will continue to be tried as adults.

Four high school students were indicted by Las Vegas prosecutors for second-degree murder, for the death of Jonathan Lewis. The youths will face justice as adults, an action permitted by Nevada law which establishes that minors can be tried as adults when "Is charged with murder or attempted murder and was 13 years of age or older when the murder or attempted murder was committed."

"Following a brief court appearance on Tuesday, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson announced that the four juveniles have been charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit battery resulting in substantial bodily harm." The Review Journal reported.

In that sense, the media outlet explained that "The four were also ordered to be transferred back to the Juvenile Detention Center to be held in custody without bail, although they will still be tried as adults." Apparently, the decision to keep them in a juvenile facility was made for the safety of the young people.

The case of Jonathan Lewis

Just this Tuesday, authorities published images of a ninth person of interest in the case. According to local media, the prosecutor detailed that another person would have been arrested for the incident, but no details are known. From the moment the investigations began, it was indicated that there could be at least 10 people involved. However, relevant police departments have only officially reported the arrest of eight people in this case so far.

The Las Vegas Police Department said last week that it arrested eight teenagers in the death of 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis and took them to a juvenile facility. The youths allegedly participated in a beating that killed Lewis in early November.

Lewis' death occurred after he was beaten by a group of 15 teenagers. The incident occurred in an alley near Rancho High School. The cause of death of the young man was blunt force trauma and was classified as homicide. According to the New York Post, authorities detailed that "the initial fight on November 1 between Lewis and an unidentified partner was over stolen wireless headphones and possibly a stolen vape pen as a result of incidents earlier in the week."
