Veteran and former State Department official Federico Klein was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for his role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
The prosecutor's office had accused Klein of shoving "police officers who were trying to control the crowd and protect the building," inciting protesters to clash with law enforcement and forcibly opening the entrance to the government building known as Lower West. Terrace Tunnel. They also claimed that his role as a federal employee worsened the seriousness of his actions.
"Your actions on January 6th were shocking and egregious," District Judge Trevor McFadden told Klein after agreeing with prosecutors. In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a $3,000 fine and $2,000 restitution on the defendant.
Another sentence for January 6
That same day, McFadden decided the fate of another one of the rioters involved in the events of January 6. Steven Cappuccio, from the University of Texas, was sentenced to seven years and one month in prison.
Like Klein, Cappuccio was found guilty of making his way to the Capitol through the Lower West Terrace Tunnel, clashing with police who were trying to block him from getting through.
