Former boxer Félix Verdejo sentenced to two life sentences for the murder of his pregnant partner

Police found the body of Keishla Rodríguez in a lagoon in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the end of 2021.

Former Puerto Rican boxer Félix "Diamante" Verdejo was sentenced to two life sentences for the murder of his partner Keishla Rodríguez, who was pregnant. The Olympian was found guilty of both Rodríguez's death and that of the unborn baby.

At the end of 2021, authorities found the 27-year-old woman dead in San José Lagoon, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. According to investigations, Verdejo met with her inside a car on Nov. 29 to talk about the pregnancy. Then, Luis Antonio Cádiz Martínez, Verdejo's accomplice who later testified against him, helped the former athlete drug his partner, tie her up, and throw her into the water from a bridge.

During the trial, the prosecution accused Verdejo of carrying out "a premeditated plan" to murder Rodríguez. In July, the jury found him guilty of the kidnapping that resulted in the deaths of Rodríguez and his unborn child.
