Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner resigned after admitting she failed to pay taxes owed on the purchase of an apartment, according to a letter she sent to Prime Minister Keir Starmer that was published Friday.
"I have therefore decided to resign as Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, as well as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party," Rayner wrote after days of controversy.
The Labour politician reportedly saved £40,000 (about $53,700) in taxes on a home purchase by removing her name from the title of another property in her constituency.
