Israeli hospital reports that freed hostage Elma Avraham, 84, is in danger of death
The elderly woman had to be evacuated by helicopter to the medical center due to her critical state of health.
The Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, Israel, reported that the freed hostage, Elma Avraham, 84, is in critical condition and in danger of death.
In a brief statement, Soroka stated that Avraham is in "poor physical condition and severe clinical condition "after spending more than 50 days in captivity after being kidnapped by the Hamas terrorist group.
Avraham had to be evacuated by helicopter to the medical center due to her health.
Dr. Shlomi Codish, CEO of Soroka Medical Center, elaborated on Avraham's situation, stating that the 84-year-old had been "significantly" neglected by her kidnappers.
"[Avraham] is treated in an emergency department after significant medical neglect for the past several weeks while being held by Hamas," Codish said. "She is currently in unstable condition with risk to her life and will be admitted to our intensive care unit and we hope we will able to stabilize it and improve her condition."
"Soroka Medical Center has been at the forefront of treating casualties of the horrible events of October 7th...it is horrific that we now need to continue to care for elderly patients held in underground tunnels for seven weeks with total medical neglect and disregard for their care, which is a miracle," stated the director of the hospital center.
