Mexico: 5.8 magnitude earthquake shakes the city of Tonalá, Chiapas

No injuries or deaths have been reported so far. It shook some areas of Guatemala.

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake was registered in the surroundings of Tonalá, a city located in the southwest of Mexico, according to Mexico’s National Seismological Service (SSN).

The information provided by the agency indicated that the earthquake occurred at 3:33 a.m. local time. The epicenter was 1.86 miles (3 kilometers) west of the city of Tonalá in the state of Chiapas and had a depth of 64.74 miles (104.2 kilometers).

No injuries or deaths have been reported so far. However, users on social media shared their experiences of feeling the intensity of the earthquake in several areas of the country such as Veracruz. It shook some parts of Guatemala, according to Mexico’s National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology.
