Blue Origin postpones the launch of Jeff Bezos' New Glenn space rocket
The company cited technical problems that prevented the first test launch, which was also intended to place the Blue Ring spacecraft into orbit.
Blue Origin once again postponed the first launch of its giant New Glenn rocket on Monday, citing technical issues related to the rocket, the U.S. aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos announced.
"We’re standing down on today’s launch attempt to troubleshoot a vehicle subsystem issue that will take us beyond our launch window." Ariane Cornell, a Blue Origin executive, said during a live broadcast followed by hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Blue Origin's project competes directly with several of SpaceX's ventures. Together, the two companies have emerged as the leading private alternatives in the space race, although SpaceX has already achieved successful tests and launches.
The New Glenn rocket carries an early prototype of the Blue Ring spacecraft, which is designed for national security and satellite servicing missions.
Blue Origin's gamble is significant, as a successful launch would see the mission place a spacecraft into its intended orbit on the first flight of the rocket.
