In the run-up to the November midterm elections, Meta - Facebook's parent company - will restrict the broadcasting of any new political advertising for one week before the elections.

This was confirmed in a blog post by Meta's president of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, he also highlighted the investment made ($5 million in the last year) in an effort to, "prevent interference, connect people with reliable information and provide industry-leading transparency for ads about social issues, elections and politics."

Banning new political ads a week before the election is nothing new for Facebook, in the 2020 general election, they also undertook such action.

TikTok and Twitter will also "protect" the elections

TikTok and Twitter have already announced their participation in similar proposals to ensure that the November elections run smoothly across their social networks.

The Chinese company will carry out actions similar to those of Meta, censoring certain content to avoid what they consider to be false information or interference; while Twitter's purpose is to have a "civic" conversation among users in what the social network calls 'civic integrity policy'.

In any case, the reality is more about the control of political messages by private companies that control most of the global information traffic.
