The Dallas Mavericks general manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison has been dismissed from his role.

Harrison was a key figure in the Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, making it one of the high-profile and controversial moves in NBA history. Since then, he has been a target of criticism from Mavericks fans.

Through a communiqué, the governor of the Texan franchise, Patrick Dumont, confirmed Harrison's dismissal. The poor start to the season - three wins and eight losses - plus the departure of Doncic in February prompted the decision.

"This decision reflects our continued commitment to building an organization with championship aspirations, one that delivers for our players, our partners and, most importantly, our fans," Dumont said.

Harrison took over in June 2021. During his tenure, the Mavericks reached the 2024 NBA Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics.

The Texans franchise reported that Michael Finley Matt Riccardi will serve as interim co-general manager while a permanent replacement is sought.
