In the face of great expectation that the news would be confirmed, it ultimately did not happen. However, the NBA assured that it is moving forward in its project to create its own basketball league in Europe, counting on the collaboration of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

This Thursday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver met with all the members of the Board of Governors - owners of all the league's franchises - and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis to continue studying the feasibility of creating this new competition on the old continent.

At the end of the assembly, Silver, accompanied by Zagklis, spoke to the media to report that the meeting was satisfactory and that the joint NBA-FIBA plan continues on track.

"NBA and FIBA are continuing to explore a new men's competition in Europe. Under the current plan being evaluated, the new league would be integrated into the European basketball landscape with the teams participating in their respective national competitions. In addition to permanent teams, the league would offer clubs a merit-based pathway through the European basketball ecosystem, while respecting the harmonization of the national team calendar," Silver said at his press conference.

However, the NBA commissioner did not want to take anything for granted: "All this could change. Nothing is decided yet."

So much for that. No further details were offered. The unknown remains as to who the participants would be. With all NBA franchises ruled out, it remains to be seen whether major European teams such as Real MadridFC Barcelona, Baskonia, Maccabi, Zalgiris, Anadolu Efes, Olimpia Milano, Fenerbahce, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. There is also speculation about the creation of new squads based in major cities such as London (UK) or Paris (France).
