Curry eruption: 56 points and 12 3-pointers

The Warriors' franchise player sets a season high to settle a bizarre game in which Orlando dominated every stat line except 3-point shooting but ended up losing.

Stephen Curry is ageless. At 36, he led the Golden State Warriors to victory against the Orlando Magic (121-115), scoring 56 points, nearly half of his team's total. The NBA's best 3-point shooter again demonstrated his powers by making 12 shots from behind the 3-point line.

"I'm blessed to be able to play this sport," Curry told AFP after the game. "For us to win this game the key was the collective work, we were down by 17 points and we came back into the game thanks to the effort of my teammates."

Curry has 14 games with at least 50 points in his career. Before Thursday, the last time he hit 12 3-pointers in an NBA game was Feb. 27, 2016 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 56 points on this day set a new season high 50 games into the year, including tonight's game in Orlando.

One 3-pointer away from tying his career high, two shy of tying the NBA record

Curiously, Curry was one 3-pointer short of matching his career high and two away from tying the NBA record for the most 3-pointers in a single game. The record is held by one of his former teammates, Klay Thompson, who made 14 3-pointers for the Warriors in October 2018.

Curry scored 22 points in the third quarter and hit nine of his 12 3-pointers before the start of the fourth period. The Warriors star was nearly matched by Paolo Banchero who recorded 39 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Magic lost a game they led in every statistical category... except 3-pointers

Statistically it was a strange game in which Orlando won the rebounding battle (50-43), shot for 51% from the field and dominated the paint (56-30), but still ended up losing the game.

The difference was at the 3-point line, where Golden State made 19 compared to 11 for Orlando.

NBA scores of the day

Milwaukee Bucks 121 - 112 Denver Nuggets

Dallas Mavericks 103 - 96 Charlotte Hornet

Phoenix Suns 116 - 124 New Orleans Pelicans
