Danielle Collins eliminated from Monterrey Open following outburst over noisy spectators
The American tennis player lost in the second round against the Russian Erika Andreeva in a difficult match due to the booing from the stands, which broke the patience of the Floridian.
American WTA player Danielle Collins was knocked out of the Monterrey Open tennis 2024, falling in the second round to the Russian Erika Andreeva who took the victory with a score of 1-6, 6-3 and 6-3.
Andreeva, ranked 89th in the world, defeated Collins, 11th in the world ranking and the tournament's top favorite, after an hour and 51 minutes of play.
At one point in the third set, with the score against her, Collins complained on court about the noise caused by some fans in the stands as Andreeva prepared to serve.
"What's going on!!! I don't understand. It's not that hard to let us play," the annoyed American tennis player said.
The Monterrey Open is a WTA 500 category tournament played on the hard courts of the Sonoma Club and distributes a purse of 922,573 dollars.
