Jon Rahm suspended by PGA Tour after leaving for Saudi-backed LIV Golf
The Spanish golfer left the American circuit and signed a contract worth more than $500 million with its competitor.
The PGA Tour has decided to suspend Jon Rahm days after he left for LIV Golf. The Spanish golfer signed an agreement with the Saudi-backed tour for more than $500 million, the second-largest sports contract in history, trailing only the one signed by Shohei Ohtani.
PGA Tour players received a notification, reported by NBC Sports, informing them of the decision:
This suspension means that Rahm will not be able to play tournaments such as the Farmers Insurance Open, the Memorial Tournament, the Zurich Classic, the BMW Championship, the American Express (Desert Classic) and the Genesis Invitational.
The Spanish golfer will debut on the Saudi circuit on Feb. 2, at the LIV Golf Mayakoba in Mexico. He will compete with professionals such as Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Sergio García and Dustin Johnson.
