Lionel Messi shone on a night full of emotions. The Argentine helped Inter Miami seal a victory over FC Dallas to reach the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup. He did so in what was his first away game since moving to the United States. The World Cup winner opened the scoring against FC Dallas six minutes before Dallas turned the game around.

But there is no doubt that it was a night full of adrenaline. Dallas was up 3-1 with just over an hour to play and heading into the final 10 minutes, Inter Miami was down 4-2. It was at that point that Messi added to the excitement with a cross that Dallas' Marco Farfan headed into his own net. And with just five minutes to go, the Argentine shone again, firing a free kick into the top corner to tie the game. With that play, it went to penalties and with Paxton Pomykal's miss for Dallas, Inter Miami booked their place in the quarterfinals.

Messi's team is the first club to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup. The league is an annual association soccer competition between Major League Soccer and Liga MX clubs in North America, held in the United States and Canada.
