The Detroit Pistons' season, which saw them finish with the worst record in the entire NBA, has led the franchise to take drastic measures to reshape their culture. A month and a half after Dwane Casey resigned from his position as coach, the Pistons signed their new head coach, Monty Williams, to a record contract.
ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the following to break the story:
It didn't take Williams long to find a new team to lead after the Phoenix Suns fired him following their second round exit. It will be his third head coaching job, having coached the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans from 2010-2015 and the Suns for five seasons, with whom he lost the NBA Finals in 2020-2021.
With Williams at the helm, the Pistons are on a mission to return the franchise to its heyday of the late 1980s and early 2000s.
