Analyst Rodolfo Pou in 'Voz News': 'Democrats should prioritize the future of the US rather than an impeachment trial against Trump'
In his view, although there are grounds on which Trump could face impeachment proceedings, "I don't think this is the time to squander that political capital on that."

Democratic analyst Rodolfo Pou attributed the Republican defeat in the midterm elections to the impact of tariffs on prices, rising gas prices, uncertainty regarding Russia and Ukraine and the immigration policies of President Donald Trump's administration. Following the Democratic victory, he called on his party to assume the power it had won responsibly and avoid squandering its political capital on a potential impeachment trial against the president.
"It's a clear message to the president and his administration," Pou said during an interview with Karina Yapor, anchor and executive director of "Voz News." In his view, although there are grounds on which Trump could face impeachment proceedings, "I don't think this is the time to squander that political capital on that." Instead, he argued that Democrats should seek "the true course for the United States over the next 20 years."
When explaining the factors that, in his opinion, contributed to the Republican defeat, Pou noted that "tariffs played a decisive role in the rise in prices for basic goods." He also mentioned the rise in gas prices linked to military interventions in Iran and the lack of progress in resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine. On immigration, he argued that the treatment during deportations led many Latin Americans to view the administration as "a local enemy" rather than an ally.
The analyst also criticized ICE's practices and questioned the detention of individuals who are in the midst of legal immigration proceedings. "This is a country of laws," he stated, adding that those involved in legal proceedings "are not violators of legal processes." Pou argued that authorities should respect the processes and allow each person to seek legal status.
As for Venezuela, Pou said that the ouster of Nicolás Maduro "may well have been justified," but he questioned whether the outcome had, in his view, turned into an economic deal that benefits certain corporations. "I'm very happy that Maduro was ousted — of course I am," he clarified, though he warned of the risk that an action initially presented as democratic could end up becoming a deal for oil and rare earth minerals.
Pou also rejected the notion that the Democratic Party is dominated by the socialist left and argued that this perception stems in part from media "rhetoric." Regarding the investigation into Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, he argued that any accusation must be supported by evidence and that judicial institutions should not be used as political tools. "If we are the model of global democracy, we cannot continue to falter in this way," he concluded.
