Wembanyama on fire: Posts best NBA performance in Spurs' win over Mavericks
The French giant shattered his career highs with 52 points and 24 rebounds. Doncic stayed red-hot, and LeBron James' 76ers aren't letting up.

A historic night at the Forst Bank Center in Texas. The San Antonio Spurs managed to edge out the Dallas Mavericks by a single point (112-111) in a matchup between two Texas franchises in which one player stood out above all others: Victor Wembanyama.
The French phenom and Spurs star turned in the best game of his NBA career, breaking his personal records for points scored and rebounds grabbed.
Specifically, Wembanyama finished the night with 52 points and 24 rebounds against the Mavericks. Until now, his career-high in scoring was on November 13, 2024, against the Washington Wizards (50 points), and his career-high in rebounds was on March 17, 2024, against the Brooklyn Nets (20 rebounds).
In addition, San Antonio's star recorded eight blocks.
"We were just relentless. We wanted it more tonight," Wembanyama said after the Texas showdown.
The Spurs were clearly superior in the first two quarters, heading into halftime with a 17-point lead.
Facing such a large deficit, the Mavericks took the court in the third quarter determined to mount a comeback. And they came close to pulling it off, falling just two points short of completing the comeback.
Alongside Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper contributed to the home victory. Castle recorded a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds), while Harper provided a highly respectable offensive boost with 21 points. De'Aaron Fox, the Spurs' playmaker, was held to single digits.
For their part, the Mavericks remain mired in uncertainty, despite putting forth a better performance than in previous games. Kyrie Irving (29 points) was Dallas's leading scorer, while Cooper Flagg (19 points and 10 rebounds) and P.J. Washington (21 points and 10 rebounds) both finished with double-doubles.
Doncic, in top form
The Los Angeles Lakers took on their northern neighbors, the Sacramento Kings (103-116). The purple-and-gold franchise secured its fourth consecutive regular-season win, while the team from Florida continues to fall short of expectations.
As in previous games, Luka Doncic was once again spectacular. The Lakers star once again scored 40 points, making him by far the top scorer in the California derby. Austin Reaves (21 points) and Walker Kessler (15 points) served as the Slovenian's right-hand men.
The 76ers solidify their position
Another victory for the Philadelphia 76ers—their seventh of the regular season—this time against the Detroit Pistons (106–112) in Michigan. This is the same team against which they suffered their only loss of the season so far. With this win, they solidify their position at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
The 76ers are making the most of their roster, the most "star-studded" in the entire NBA. The best player against the Pistons was Joel Embiid (26 points and 15 rebounds), although the leading scorer was Jaylen Brown (30 points). LeBron James, like the Cameroonian-born, U.S.-naturalized center, recorded a double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds), while Tyrese Maxey contributed a strong offensive performance (19 points).
