The government reaffirmed the level 4 alert for travel to Venezuela. This Monday, authorities asked Americans not to go to the Caribbean country because it poses an extreme danger.

Among the reasons, the authorities indicated that there are threats due to human rights violations, kidnapping and unjust detentions in the Caribbean country.

In addition, the State Department has asked permanent residents in that country to leave Venezuela immediately.

"Do not travel to or remain in Venezuela due to the high risk of wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure. All U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents in Venezuela are strongly advised to depart immediately," the State Department explained in an alert issued Monday.

Embassy is without operations

In March 2019, the State Department recalled all diplomatic personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Caracas and suspended operations. All consular services, both routine and emergency, remain suspended until further notice.

In this regard, the Government indicated that the U.S. authorities will not be able to provide assistance in case of medical emergency or evacuation. Similarly, it stressed that those residing in Venezuela should consider acquiring medical evacuation insurance.

"The U.S. government has no ability to provide emergency services or consular assistance to U.S. citizens in Venezuela. Anyone with U.S. citizenship or any other U.S. residency status in Venezuela should leave the country immediately, including those traveling on Venezuelan or other foreign passports. Do not travel to Venezuela for any reason," the department insisted.
