A recent Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) poll found that 46% of Republican voters agree with using the military to detain illegal immigrants in temporary camps until they can be deported. On the other hand, 19% of independent voters and 8% of Democrats favor such measures.

President-elect Donald Trump stated that he may use the military to bolster immigration operations and deport criminals who entered the country illegally and have committed crimes.

The immigration court system has a backlog of 3.7 million cases

Data from the Pew Research Center indicates that approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants reside in the nation, although the president-elect has suggested that the number could be much higher, reaching 21 million.

The immigration court system already faces a backlog of 3.7 million cases, which takes an average of four years to resolve. This creates a cloudy outlook on what the process would look like.

However, while most Americans reject the idea of using the military to detain immigrants. The Republican base is willing to support drastic measures to solve the immigration crisis present during the Biden administration. This includes deporting criminal migrants who entered the nation illegally.
