Police charge Brian Dowling, an 18-year-old New Yorker, with the stabbing murder of Ryan Carson
Officers claimed to have found the sweatshirt visible in the video of the attack in Dowling's apartment.
The New York Police Department announced this Thursday that a Brooklyn man has been charged with the murder of left-wing poet and activist Ryan Carson. This was confirmed by CBS New York, which also reported the name of the suspect: Brian Dowling.
Investigators do not believe that Dowling, accused of murder and possession of a weapon, knew Carson or his girlfriend before the attack, according to the report.
Officers claimed to have found incriminating evidence in Dowling's apartment. According to the New York Post, police found the sweatshirt (reportedly Champion brand) visible in the video of the attack. They also said they were investigating whether a knife found at the property was the murder weapon.
The murder occurred early Monday morning, when Carson, 32, was walking with his girlfriend in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. After the attacker stabbed Carson several times, a woman can be seen in a recording of the event approaching and appearing to call the attacker "Brian."
