'I didn't like the way she dealt with the Queen': Donald Trump says he'd 'love' to debate Meghan Markle
"Let's set it up. Let's go do something. I'd love to debate her. I would love it," the former president said about the possibility of a debate with the Duchess of Sussex.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump is not interested in participating in the Republican presidential debates hosted by Fox News, but on Wednesday morning said he is interested in debating a former celebrity British royal.
During a radio interview with host Hugh Hewitt, former President Trump claimed that he would like to debate the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, while stating that he did not"like the way she dealt with the Queen [Elizabeth]."
"Let's set it up. Let's go do something. I'd love to debate her. I would love it," the former president said of the possibility of a debate with Markle, whom he has previously criticized for " treating badly" Queen Elizabeth, who died last year.
During the conversation, Trump also said the queen was a "great woman" and revealed that he became close friends with her. Something he confirmed in an opinion article for the DailyMail where he commented that "Spending time with Her Majesty was one of the most extraordinary honors of my life."
Trump also said that at 96, Queen Elizabeth was much more competent than Biden at 80.
"At 95, she was so sharp. She was 100%. When you watch Biden, you say this is a different planet," said the former president, who is the GOP's overwhelming favorite to win the Republican nomination according to most national polls.
The former Republican president met with Queen Elizabeth II during a state visit to the United Kingdom in June 2019. At the time, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, and the Duchess were still members of the Royal Family before they both stepped aside from their duties in the Crown and resigned from the Royal Family altogether in 2021.
