The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of an approaching heat wave in certain areas of the southern part of the country. Specifically, the federal agency expects highs in South Texas and parts of Louisiana to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit over the next few days, although wind chill will be higher due to humidity.

These conditions mean that fires can start more easily. The NWS expects severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and hail for the Texas Panhandle this Saturday afternoon. These same weather conditions are expected in parts of southern Kansas and Oklahoma.

These heat waves in Texas and Louisiana will affect around 25 million people, so authorities recommend drinking plenty of liquids, turning on the air conditioning and not going outside during the hottest hours of the day to avoid health problems such as heat stroke and fainting.
