In recent weeks, the president traveled across the country to campaign for Republican candidates in key states. One day before the election, he delivered his final speech a short distance from the White House, accompanied by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
During his remarks, Trump highlighted the work done on the reflecting pool: "The pool is now better and more beautiful than it's ever been before. And we're very proud of it. We went through a lot with vandalism. The vandalism was unprecedented. Built more than a century ago in 1922, this is the largest reflecting pool in the world. It's almost as tall as two Empire State Buildings laid on its side. And it's really amazing."
In addition, the Republican highlighted the White House's campaign to make Washington a "safer and more beautiful" city. "While past Administrations tore down statues, allowed thugs and murderers to run wild and let our capital fall into shameful disrepair, we're treating our capital city with the love and the honor that it deserves. We respect it," he added.
Heading into the election: Trump warns of the dangers of a Democratic victory
On the eve of the midterm elections, Trump claimed that the Democrats have "nominated the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history."
"These are the most dangerous candidates ever put up," he added.
The president also spoke about his achievements during his first two years in office. He highlighted the decline in crossings at the southern border, the tax cuts included in the Tax Cuts for Working Families Act, and the fight against fraud.
"Personal incomes are the highest in history. The poverty rate is at a record low. American exports are at an all-time high. More people are working today than ever. The U.S. is now, by far, the largest supplier of oil and natural gas anywhere in the world," he continued.
Regarding the election results, the president said that Republicans "put forth a very strong effort," though he acknowledged that historically, the president's party "does not win midterm elections."
