This 2022 the world had to say goodbye to great personalities from entertainment, sports and even royalty and Voz Media wanted to pay tribute to them by remembering them with a list of some of the most important ones.
January
Beginning the year, one of the first deaths that shook the world was that of actor and film director Sidney Poitier, who became the first black actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Poitier was a highly awarded artist throughout his career. Sadly he died on January 6 at the age of 82 from heart failure.
Actor, comedian and television host Bob Saget, best known for being part of the sitcom Full House, passed away on January 9 at the age of 65 due to head trauma.
February
Luc Montagnier, the French researcher, virologist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2008 for discovering the AIDS virus, died on the 8th at the age of 89, leaving a great mourning among science experts.
Journalist and writer of two dozen books, PJ O'Rourke, also left a huge void after dying at 74 from complications of lung cancer, his publisher said.

John Clayton, the famed journalist who covered the NFL and was nicknamed "The Professor," died March 18 at age 67 as a result of a brief illness he suffered, the Seattle Seahawks said in a statement.
The death of Taylor Hawkins, the drummer of Foo Fighters, was another of the terrible news that 2022 brought. The 50-year-old musician was found lifeless after what is believed to be substance intoxication in a hotel room.

Tommy Davis, a Major League Baseball icon after winning multiple batting titles with the Dodgers and breaking the single-season club record with 230 hits and 153 RBIs, died on the 3rd of this month at the age of 83.
Actress Estelle Harris, was another of the great stars who left this world during 2022. The world will remember her for her commercials, her role as George's mother on Seinfield and even the voice she lent to the Toy Story franchise as Mrs. Potato.

Actress Marnie Schulenburg died after a long battle with breast cancer at age 37. The American artist was especially known for her role as Alison Stewart in the CBS soap opera: As the World Turns.
Actor Ray Liotta, internationally famous for his role as Henry Hill in Goodfellas, died at the age of 67 while sleeping in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming the movie Dangerous Waters, according to his publicist.

Bon Jovi founding member and original bassist Alec John Such left the music industry in mourning after passing away on June 5 at the age of 70.
Hugh McElhenny, nicknamed "The King" and known as one of three NFL players to gain more than 11,000 yards when he retired in 1964, died at age 93 on the 17th of this month.

The world was shocked by the death of Ivana Trump, first wife of former President Donald Trump. The model was 73 years old when she accidentally fell down the stairs of her New York home.
Nichelle Nichols, known for her role as Nyota Uhura in the Star Trek series and for her role as a NASA recruiter, died of natural causes at age 89 on the 30th of this month.

Olivia Newton-John, Australian actress and singer who won four Grammy Awards and sold more than a hundred million records died on the 8th of this month at the age of 73 after battling spinal cancer.
Another actress, Anne Heche, died at the age of 53 after being involved in a car accident. The artist died from severe lung injuries and burns, after spending a few days in the hospital.
September
Undoubtedly one of the most important deaths this year was that of Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch had been on the throne for seven decades, making her the longest-serving monarch in the history of the United Kingdom. Months after her death, it was revealed that the queen was suffering from a type of bone cancer.
Coolio, one of the biggest names in hip-hop during the 1990s, passed away on September 28 at the age of 59 after suffering a heart attack.

Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder of Red Bull, Formula 1 team owner and billionaire, passed away on the 22nd of this month at the age of 78.
Famed singer Jerry Lee Lewis who vied with Elvis Presley for the title of rock icon died at age 87 at his home in Desoto County, Mississippi.

British vocalist and songwriter Christine McVie, known for being a member of Fleetwood Mac, died peacefully in hospital at the age of 79 after suffering from an illness.
Three-time Super Bowl champion Ray Guy passed away at age 72 after a long illness on Nov. 3.
December
Last but not least, this year closed with three important deaths: that of the renowned soccer player, Pelé, the television celebrity Barbara Walters and the Pope emeritus Benedict XVI.
