Anthony Fauci made a bad joke about the origin of the coronavirus. The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said he created the virus in his kitchen. This joke has caused many to criticize him on social networks.
Fauci's comments were delivered Tuesday on the campus of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington. He participated in the event along with Dr. Larry Corey, who said, "At the epicenter of the initial outbreak, WA1 - Washington 1 is considered the ancestral model strain." Fauci replied,"No, I developed the ancestral model strain" and added referring to the virus, I "created it."
Fauci repeatedly said he believes the virus originated in nature, while many in the country have leaned toward the theory that the virus escaped from the Wuhan lab.
