Ali Shadmani had served as Iran's emergency wartime chief of staff after his predecessor was eliminated by Israel in the opening strike of the war.

"The Iranian propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way to disappear," Defense Minister Israel Katz had said ahead of the attack.

"This is a critical operation to prevent an existential threat, by an enemy who is intent on destroying us," Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir stated.
