Jon Husted to replace JD Vance in the Senate
The lieutenant governor of Ohio will fill the vacancy left by the vice president-elect. He promised to defend Trump's policies on right to life and immigration.

Jon Husted
The wait is over. After months of rumors ever since Donald Trump chose J.D. Vance as his running mate, it will ultimately be Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted who will take the seat vacated by the next vice president in the Senate.
It was Ohio Governor Mike DeWine who was responsible for naming Husted as the new senator from Ohio at the Capitol.
"I'm proud to announce that I have selected [Jon Husted] to serve in the U.S. Senate, replacing Vice President-elect [J.D. Vance]," DeWine wrote on social media.
Immediately upon learning of his new position, Husted issued a statement detailing that he will primarily advocate for four issues in the Senate.
Before Husted's appointment was made public, many were the names that were linked to replace Vance in the Senate: Matt Dolan, Jane Timken, Fran LaRose, Dave Yost, Mike Carey, Warren Davidson and even Vivek Ramaswamy, who was encouraged by Trump to run.
Outside of being Ohio's lieutenant governor, Husted has served as Ohio secretary of state, Ohio senator and member and speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives.
