On Monday, Nikki Haley asked for protection from the Secret Service due to growing threats against her. The Republican presidential candidate, who turns out to be the only alternative to Donald Trump, claimed to have had "multiple problems" in the last weeks of the campaign.

The Republican confirmed the request in dialogue with The Wall Street Journal, although she acknowledged that threats are somehow part of the game. "When you do something like this, you get threats. It's just the reality," she said.

To improve her security, Haley confessed that it was necessary to "put a few more bodies around us. At the end of the day, we're going to go out there and touch every hand, we're going to answer every question, we're going to make sure that we are there and doing everything that we need to," she added.

One of the episodes mentioned by the candidate took place recently in Columbia, South Carolina, where a woman tried to go on stage and was stopped by a member of Haley's team.

In turn, Haley's home in the Palmetto State was the subject of at least one incident in recent weeks. For example, a person falsely called authorities, claiming that some incident had occurred at the residence. Although the Republican was not at home at the time of the incident, her parents and caregiver were.

Haley is focused on the Republican primary in South Carolina, where she hopes to put in a good performance that will allow her to gain some momentum ahead of Super Tuesday.

However, according to the latest Washington Post-Monmouth University poll, Trump could win 58% of the votes, against Haley's 32%, less than the 43% he obtained in the New Hampshire primary.

According to the poll, Haley would only get 13% of those who consider themselves "very conservative" and 56% among moderates/liberals.
