Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is planning to announce his candidacy as an independent on October 9 in Pennsylvania, according to a report by Mediaite.

According to a text message reviewed by the outlet, “Kennedy’s campaign machine is now planning 'attack ads' against the Democratic National Committee in order to 'pave the way' for his announcement in Philadelphia about running as an independent.”

"Bobby feels that the Democratic National Committee is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy so an independent run is the only way to go," a Kennedy campaign source said.

This decision by John F. Kennedy's nephew could be a game changer ahead of the 2024 elections, amid reports where former President Trump is advancing in the polls, surpassing President Biden in several polls.

Kennedy's run as an independent could be a drawback for any GOP candidate because, for now, the Democrat has much higher favorability among Republican voters than Democrats.

In a highly polarized election, where the independent vote will be decisive, an independent candidate, mostly popular among conservatives, could be an unforeseen obstacle for the winner of the Republican primary, according to conservative analysts.

"Not good for the GOP ticket, no matter how you slice it," wrote Townhall.com analyst John Hasson.
