Rep. MTG introduces a bill that would prohibit illegal immigrants from voting in D.C.
The legislation "will force the DC Board of Elections to ensure only American citizens vote in our nation’s capital."
Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican Representative from Georgia introduced legislation that would prevent illegal immigrants from voting in DC elections.
According to a report, the legislation was introduced Thursday under the title "American Confidence in Elections: District of Columbia Voter Identification Act." The bill co-sponsored by Florida Republican Representative Greg Steube and New York Republican Representative Claudia Tenney seeks to safeguard the integrity of elections by implementing voter ID that includes a photo.
"Not only will this force the DC Board of Elections to ensure only American citizens vote in our nation’s capital, this will set a standard and precedent for the rest of the country to follow," Greene explained.
The bill specifically targets the District of Columbia Council Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, which would allow undocumented immigrants to vote in local DC elections.
"Only American citizens should be voting in American elections," the Georgia representative told The Daily Caller.
Another measure against illegal immigration
Just this week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also made a statement against illegal immigration by announcing that his state will no longer honor driver's licenses issued by other states to undocumented immigrants.
The presidential candidate explained that those who entered the country illegally and violated the laws should not have a government-issued ID that would allow them access to state-funded services or give them privileges granted to legal residents.
"Even if the federal government refuses, Florida will act decisively to protect our citizens, our state, and our country," he said.
