NeverTrumper Failure: Liz Cheney trounced in Wyoming primary by 37 points
She did not support the winning candidate, compared herself to Abraham Lincoln, and laid plans to run in 2024 presidential primaries.
Republicans have largely rejected Liz Cheney in the Wyoming County primary race. Donald Trump-endorsed candidate Harriet Hageman obtained 66.3% of the votes while the former president's main enemy in the Republican Party, Liz Cheney, obtained just 28.9% of the vote. This completes the 10 impeachment curse that has already taken down 8 candidates. Another one won by 140 votes, and the tenth was pardoned by Trump, who did not send an alternative candidate.
Compared herself to Lincoln
Liz Cheney has been rejected by a 37-vote margin, even though she had the support of the Bush clan, Adam Kinzinger, and the Democratic Party. Cheney has compared herself to the first Republican President Abraham Lincoln: "The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all. Lincoln ultimately prevailed. He saved our Union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history."
Her reference to Lincoln suggests that she has no intention of leaving politics. Her words of concession of defeat to her rival are clear in this regard: "Tonight Harriet Hageman has received the most votes in this primary. She won. I called her to concede the race. This primary election is over, but now the real work begins."
"To the gates of hell"
Adam Kinzinger, a member of the House of Representatives who is not up for re-election, and who is one of 'the impeachment 10', offered to shed more light on Cheney's plans: 'She will chase Donald Trump to the gates of hell, that's for sure.
Ahead of the primaries and seemingly knowing what the outcome might be, the Washington Post published an article titled "Liz Cheney’s political life is likely ending — and just beginning."
Cheney 2024
The article reflects her intention to run in the presidential primaries in 2024. In doing so, she would likely garner the support of big anti-Trump donors to fund her race:
