Casemiro steps in for Neymar to help Brazil qualify

The 'canarinho' midfielder, who played a full game, scored the goal which put an end to Switzerland’s rocky plays.

Neither Vinicius, nor Richarlison, nor Raphinha... Casemiro was the true substitute for Neymar as the Brazilian replacement. The Canarinha’s goal helped the team to defeat Switzerland and qualify for the next round. The Swiss are still depending on themselves to make it to the round of 16.

The Brazilians could not find a way to break down the Swiss team with a lot of skill. Vinicius and Raphinha's lunges were not enough to beat Sommer, who played it very safe when tested.

Brazil is in trouble

In the second half, Switzerland even ventured into the Brazilian box, and did so dangerously, in a move that the defense managed to ward off in extremis.

The scare did not make Brazil rethink their plays. They hung in the game. Vinicius managed to score, but the goal was disallowed due to Richarlison being offside.

Volley

Casemiro's close-range volley a few minutes later made it on the scoreboard. The Manchester United midfielder once again showed his ability to send his team into the Round of 16 of the World Cup.

Brazil, Portugal and France go to the round of 16

With this result, Brazil, France and Portugal, are the only three teams guaranteed to move on. Switzerland, who beat Cameroon in the first matchday, will have to depend on themselves to join them in the last matchday of the group stage.
