Britney Spears accuses Victor Wembanyama’s bodyguard of assault

The singer claims on social media that she was hit in the face by a member of Spurs security when she tried to greet the first pick in the NBA draft.

Britney Spears accused Victor Wembanyama‘s security guard of assault when she tried to greet this year's first overall draft pick. The singer claims she was "back handed" in the face by one of Wembanyama’s security guards when she tapped the player on the shoulder to get his attention in a crowd attending the team's arrival at the hotel. Spears is demanding that the player, the security guard and the franchise publicly apologize to her. Wembanyama, who claims he never noticed who approached him, said he was"grabbed from behind" by the artist and the security team pushed her away.

"Traumatic experience"

Spears posted a statement on social media saying that she lived a "traumatic experience" which she was "not prepared for." According to her version of the story, she saw the player in the hall of the hotel where she was staying and, later, she met him again in the restaurant of another hotel and decided to greet him. "It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. … His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses off my face."

The pop star demanded a public apology from Wembanyama, noting the importance of urging "people in the public eye to set an example and treat people with respect." She went on, "I have yet to get a public apology from the player, his security or their organization. I hope they will."

Wembanyama: "She grabbed me from behind"

Wembanyama told ESPN that he was surrounded by people shouting his name when he was pulled back, prompting the intervention of his security team.

We were in the hall. There was a lot of people, so people were calling [at] me, obviously. There was one person who was calling me, but we talked before with security. …That person grabbed me from behind -- not on my shoulder, she grabbed me from behind. I just know the security pushed her away. I don't know with how much force, but security pushed her away. I didn't stop to look so I could walk in and enjoy a nice dinner.

The number one pick of the 2023 NBA Draft assures that at no time was he aware that it was Britney Spears.

I didn't know for a couple hours, but when I came back to the hotel ... I thought it was no big deal, and then security of the Spurs told me it was Britney Spears. At first, I was like, “You're joking,” but yeah, it turns out it was Britney Spears. I never saw her face. I just kept walking straight.
