"In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who reached out to offer condolences and help."

The tragic incident

According to the Daily Wire, Gill had been taken to a hospital where he fought for his life after being shot while picking up his wife a few blocks from the White House on K Street in downtown D.C. at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.

"We can confirm that Mike Gill was the victim of the shooting at the 900 block of K Street Northwest on Monday evening and is in critical condition. Out of respect for the family, we have nothing additional to add at this time," said Gill family spokesperson Erica Richardson.

The perpetrator of the attempted murder against Gill died early Tuesday at the hands of police after he tried to steal four vehicles in Washington, D.C., and nearby Maryland suburbs.
