'Blonde' sweeps at the Razzies 2023

The film starring Ana de Armas accumulates a total of eight nominations in the awards that honor the worst of the year.

If tomorrow, Tuesday, January 24, is the day of nominations for the Oscars, then today, Monday, January 23, is the day they announce which films have been nominated for the Razzies (whose original name is Golden Raspberry). Known as the anti-Oscars, the 43rd edition, which is usually held one day before the most important gala for cinema, will take place on Saturday, March 11.

Blonde, the film starring Ana de Armas is the standout favorite. The Marilyn Monroe biopic made by Netflix, accumulated a total of eight nominations, including Worst Picture, Worst Remake or Sequel and Worst Couple. Its main protagonist, Ana de Armas, had a lucky escape and managed to do get away with not being nominated as one of the worst actresses, however, her feature film, was not so lucky, as the organizers of these controversial awards assured:

Leading the pack of cinematic mongrels with 8 nominations for the 43rd Annual Razzie® Awards is Blonde, which movie-goers liked even less than critics did. Called a “biopic that’s not a biopic,” by its makers, it “explores” the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe… by continuing to exploit her posthumously. In addition to Worst Picture, it’s up for Worst Screenplay and Worst Director, both by Andrew Dominik, whose work here says more about him than it does about his subject.

Morbius and Good Mourning are the next big nominees in the 2023 Razzies. As pronounced by the organization, the film starring the Spider-Man villain, which has five nominations, is "the year’s most ridiculed movie," while Good Mourning is "a laugh-free stoner comedy achieving the rare feat of scoring a perfect ZERO on Rotten Tomatoes."
