Who said political adversaries should hate each other? Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy, despite choosing to represent opposing parties in the upcoming presidential election, have exchanged praise through the media and during campaign events. On Wednesday, the Democratic candidate refused to bad-mouth his potential Republican rival and called for unity.
One week before, Trump had praised Kennedy emphasizing that "he is a very good man, his heart is in the right place." The former president also highlighted the Democrat's "common sense": "There’s a lot of things, you know, he’s a common sense guy and so am I, so whether you’re conservative or liberal, common sense is common sense." This has shown in the polls, in which Kennedy has around 20% of voting intentions among his party's supporters and is the candidate of whom voters have the most favorable opinion.
"Don't debate Trump"
Trump emphasized that he has a good relationship with Kennedy, and thanked him for the compliments received on his behalf. "He said, 'Trump is the greatest debater. Just don't debate going against Trump'. I was very honored by the fact he said that. I’m glad he feels that." he said.
The latest episode of praise took place in Kennedy's town hall at News Media. Despite the host's efforts to get him to criticize Trump, the Democratic candidate refused and even thanked him for his support. "This is what I am not going to do in this race. I'm not going to attack other people personally. What I'm trying to do in this race is bring people together. I'm proud that President Trump likes me. I want to bring people together."
