White House insists on distancing Biden from son's business dealings: "There is zero evidence"

Karine Jean-Pierre accuses congressional Republicans of "wasting their time" on impeachment while another spokesperson insists Hunter "makes his own decisions."

The White House again distanced Joe Biden from his son Hunter's investigated business dealings abroad. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accused Republican congressmen of "wasting time and wasting Americans' time" with the impeachment process launched against the president because "there has been zero evidence - zero evidence" that the head of the Executive is involved in his son's business dealings. Ian Sams, spokesman, for Oversight and Investigations at the presidential residence added that "Hunter is a private person" who "can make his own decisions."

Jean-Pierre goes on the attack against the GOP

Faced with questions from reporters during a press conference, Jean-Pierre insisted on the president's innocence before going on the attack against conservative lawmakers:

The President is not lying about anything when it — as it relates to what House Republicans are trying to do. It is baseless, it is a political stunt, and he has not — it has not proven that the President has done anything wrong — done anything wrong.  And so, they are wasting their time. They are wasting the American people’s time.  And what they should be doing is the things that I just listed. They’re going to go home, but they haven’t taken care of what we need to make sure that we are helping Ukraine. There’s going to be potentially a shutdown next month. They have done nothing — nothing to avert that shutdown.

The press secretary even accused GOP members of going on Christmas vacation without trying to solve Americans' real problems while insisting on investigating the presidential family even though, she said, conservative lawmakers themselves admit they have nothing against Biden.

And they’re leaving — House Republicans are leaving this week to go, you know, enjoy a nice holiday — right? — as most Americans should.  But where — what happened to the funding to Ukraine?  You just asked me about Ukraine.  They haven’t been able to get that done.

They haven’t been able to fix — help us fix what’s going on at the border. They haven’t been able to get that done. They haven’t been able to start a conversation on how we’re going to avert a shutdown in January. They haven’t been able to do that. And so, look, you know, there has been zero evidence — zero evidence.  You can ask me about engagement and what the President has done with his family in conversation, but there’s no evidence.

There is no evidence that the President has done wrongdoing. There’s none. Absolutely none. None. And that is just a fact. You’ve heard it from Republicans themselves. So, they are wasting their time. Instead of doing the work of — for — on behalf of the American people, they go after the President’s family.

Hunter Biden "he can make his own decisions"

For his part, Sams, during an interview on CNN, insisted on separating Joe Biden from his son's business dealings and decisions. He also accused Republican politicians of provoking Hunter's rebuff of the House subpoena after rejecting his offer of a public hearing.

Hunter’s a private person. He can make his own decisions about how to handle these sorts of things. But the President loves and is very proud of him. He overcame a very dark period in his life and has stood tall and is in recovery. And also, it should be pointed out something that’s getting lost, Hunter offered to testify publicly and transparently. He offered, and the House Republicans rejected it. And it gets to the point of what they’re doing here, they’ll never be satisfied. They’re going to continue attacking, over and over and over again, no matter what facts come out, no matter what the truth is. And what’s really scary about what’s happening right now is they’re abusing such a grave constitutional process to do it.
