Video: This is how a veteran reduces a lunatic armed with a knife

Davis Demario hit the assailant, who was threatening employees and shoppers at a Walmart in Richland, with a pole.

A veteran restrained a man who threatened people in a Walmart in Richland County, Wisconsin, with a knife. As the attacker screamed and gesticulated with the knife, Davis Demario approached from behind and hit him with a pole in the head. Once he was shot down, the Police Department officers proceeded to arrest him.

According to witnesses, the man pulled the knife out of his pocket and began shouting and threatening employees and people who were in the mall shopping. The events occurred at the self checkout counters of the Walmart.

Military training

The protagonist himself recounted the events to Wis TV:

Me and my son, we were following behind and he was like once the cops get here, I’m going to start cutting people up. So this one guy was like, aye man, you need to come outside and he put the knife in the guy’s face and started swinging it. Once I saw him swinging it, you know I’m a veteran and we’re trained on stuff like that in basic training for situations like that.

"A person from the community."

Demario explained that he decided to neutralize him because, "as a community person," he had to "step up" if something happens in the community "that is not right." He then grabbed a tent pole and forcefully struck the assailant from behind, causing him to fall to the ground and drop the weapon. At that moment, another man approached and picked up the weapon, moving it away from the assailant.

My first instinct was to neutralize the situation so I just casually walked over and waited until I had an opportunity to get him and I got em I guess. I’m a community person, so if I see something in the community that’s not right, with all the violence and things and attacks going on, gun violence you know, you want your people in the community to step up as well. The cops can’t do it all by themselves.

The example of the Paris station

Demario's action prevented a tragedy like the one that occurred in Paris last week, when a man injured six people with a knife. Images of the assault show him stabbing one of the victims, while several people unsuccessfully try to separate them.
