Senator María Fernanda Cabal warns about an alleged plot against her by Petro's government

"Apparently they intend to send an angry mob to my home in Bogotá," the opposition leader wrote on X.

Colombian Senator María Fernanda Cabal claims that she was informed of a possible attack against her by a group close to President Gustavo Petro.

In a letter addressed to the president and vice president of Colombia, Cabal asked for concrete action against what she described as serious threats that could compromise her physical safety. “I have received information from a reliable source from Cauca, that apparently they intend to send an angry mob to my home in Bogotá. They revealed to me that a member of this government contacted a group of indigenous people to carry out an act like the one they did against Revista Semana,” said the senator on X.

The senator explained that this tactic, called a "murga," which refers to targeting a person with words or actions, would constitute an act of disruption of public order.

"A highly reliable source, linked to an indigenous organization in the department of Cauca, has revealed that an individual affiliated with his government has coordinated an act of intimidation in front of my residence in Bogotá, scheduled for [Feb. 8]. This act, described as a 'murga,' has the potential to trigger a public order problem with unpredictable consequences," highlighted Cabal.

Given the severity of these events, I demand as quickly as possible that preventive and security measures be implemented that safeguard my well-being, that of my family and that of my neighbors, who deserve to live in peace and safety. It is imperative that the state ensure the protection of all its citizens against any form of violence or intimidation.
