Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who aspires to compete for the Democratic nomination, held a press conference this weekend in Austin, Texas, and strongly criticized President Joe Biden's immigration policy.
He spoke about different topics, including how cities in the United States, including those far from the border like New York City, are being affected by an unprecedented immigration crisis.
“Every city in this country has now become a border town,” said the Democrat and environmental activist, who has been praised by conservatives for his scathing attacks on Biden and his own party.
Kennedy also addressed the Biden Administration's announcement regarding work permits granted to 470,000 Venezuelan migrants.
“Giving 470,000 migrants work visas is a signal to the rest of the world that anyone who comes to this country is going to get a work visa. And that’s the last thing we want to signal at this point. Until the border is secure, we should not be talking about work visas for anybody. ,” said Kennedy Jr., who later blamed Biden for being the president who generated the humanitarian crisis on the border.
“Since Biden was elected, 7 million immigrants have come across the border illegally,” said Robert Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy Jr. said Mexican drug cartels have been actively profiting from the crisis at the border and urged traditional political parties to find a bipartisan solution.
“We need unity. This shouldn’t be a Democratic issue or a Republic issue. The Democrats who have been urging an open border policy need to look at the evidence now and rethink their positions,” Kennedy Jr. said. “And we need to quickly secure the borders. Then we can think about work permits or amnesty programs. But we can’t sell those to the American people until the borders are closed and the frontiers are secure.”
