Los premios Óscar celebraron su edición número 96 en el Dolby Theatre de Hollywood, California. Jimmy Kimmel presentó una ceremonia en la que dos películas se convirtieron en las grandes protagonistas: Oppenheimer y Poor Things. Con la expectativa puesta precisamente en ambas producciones, acumularon buena parte de las estatuillas y muchas de las más importantes de la velada.
Considerados como los premios más importantes de la industria del cine, concentran a cientos de actores, productores, guionistas y encargados de vestuario, entre muchos otros, en una única noche. En esta ocasión, se entregaron premios para más de 20 categorías, entre las que se destacaron la de Mejor película, Mejor dirección y Mejor actor y actriz principales, entre muchas otras.
En el conteo de estatuillas, Oppenheimer y Poor Things se convirtieron en las dos películas más laureadas, con siete para la dirigida por Christopher Nolan y cuatro para la protagonizada por Emma Stone.
