Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio has openly expressed his support for former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 presidential race.
Despite all the controversies that arose between the senator and Trump when they competed for the presidency in 2016, this Sunday, Rubio used social media to announce his support for the former president. This gesture could be interpreted as a snub towards his state's governor and presidential candidate, Ron DeSantis.
Through his post on X, Rubio shared some of Trump's political qualities and highlighted how these contributed to various achievements.
"When Trump was in the White House (…) [he] didn't cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us," he said. Rubio highlighted that thanks to this, he was able to achieve important policies such as the expansion of the Child Tax Credit and the imposition of harsh sanctions on the Cuban and Venezuelan regimes.
When Trump was in WH I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us.
I support Trump because that…

In his publication, the senator also noted that he considers Trump's leadership to be just what the country needs to confront the "disasters" caused by the Biden administration.
"I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the only way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created. It's time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!" he said.
Rubio's endorsement comes a day before the Iowa caucuses, where Trump has a sizable lead. In fact, according to recent polls conducted by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ in Iowa, the former president has an advantage of 34.9 points over Nikki Haley's 17.9. DeSantis, for his part, is in third place with 15.5% support.
