Latinistas: the first exclusive line of Hispanic dolls

"Our goal is to unite, empower and celebrate our community through play," said Jovanna Rosado, head of the company behind Latinistas.

Barbie's appearance on the big screen brought the dolls back to fame. Even before the movie starring Margot Robbie was released in theaters, there was already a boom triggered by the Mattel toy: board games, clothes, toys... everything was dyed pink in honor of the movie. It also brought back toys that many thought were forgotten: dolls. Not only did Barbie make a comeback, but so did others like Nancy and Bratz.

The Barbie movie not only helped the classic dolls make a comeback, but it also made room for new toys to make their way into the market. This included dolls that represent different races and even cultures. One example is Latinistas.

Juliana, Lola, Dani and Liv are four dolls that form the first exclusive line of Latina dolls. They are Hispanic and have been designed and developed by Latinas. Their goal is to give children "a sense of cultural familiarity" because, according to its creators, "culture comes from the heart."

"I am beyond honored to be part of this historic moment for our community," said Jovanna Rosado, head of Purpose Toys LATIN, in a statement reported by Remezcla. "Our goal through Purpose Toys LATIN is to unite, empower and celebrate our community through play. This is only the beginning!"

The Latinistas dolls will be on sale at Target, Walmart and Amazon

To go to market, Jovanna Rosado explained, the company teamed up with Purpose Toys. The company, created by Dee Dee Wright-Ward, created toy lines such as Naturalistas and HBCyoU Dolls and calls itself as a "supportive community of black founders." The company partners with entrepreneurs and provides them with the necessary infrastructure and resources to develop their "product with a purpose" in retail.

The Latinistas toy line will go on sale September 1, 2023 at major retailers nationwide, including Target, Walmart and Amazon. Although the price varies by model, they will be around $10 per doll, according to the website YouLoveIt, and will also feature different looks that will be interchangeable.
