Former national gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar was stabbed several times at the federal prison where he is serving his sentence. Nassar was first convicted in 2017 by a federal court for possession of child pornography. In the following years, Nassar was convicted by other federal courts for his various cases of sexual assault against minors. In total, he accumulated a sentence of 175 years in prison.
According to AP sources, Nassar was stabbed in the back and chest last Sunday by another inmate at Coleman Correctional Facility in Florida. According to the same sources, Nassar is stable and under medical supervision. The AP assures that the prison authorities are conducting the corresponding investigation.

Nassar took advantage of his position as the national gymnastics team doctor for years to prey on underage girls. During the judicial process, several gymnasts testified against him and provided their testimonies of years of sexual abuse. Simon Biles and McKayla Maroney were among the Olympic athletes who accused Nassar.
The case became particularly controversial due to the FBI's inability to conduct a conclusive investigation against Nassar. It took the authorities about 20 years to formally charge Nassar despite repeated complaints from members of the gymnastics team, athletes and affected parents. The victims went on to claim $1 billion from the federal government for the FBI's mistakes in the investigation.
