In 2022, the number of births in the U.S. declined again

The numbers have not returned to their pre-Covid pandemic levels as originally expected.

The total number of births in the United States is down. The birth rate hit rock bottom in the country, again, with about 3,000 fewer births in 2022 compared to 2021. In a recent report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published last year's data, as well as some findings on birth rates.

According to the report, only 3.7 million children were born in 2022. This figure is similar to the previous year, although lower. These results are below pre-Covid pandemic levels and have not increased as experts had originally expected.

The birth rate among women over the age of 35 did increase, a figure that, according to the CDC, is on an upward trend. There was a record number of these births in 2022, the highest number since the 1960s. Births among women in their twenties reached an all-time low. The 25-30 age group is the group with the highest proportion of births per 1,000 women, at 97.

From an ethnic standpoint, only Hispanics (4%), Asians (3%), and Pacific Islanders (6%) had growth in the number of births between 2021 and 2022. There was a decline among Whites, Blacks and Native Americans.
